And Then The Darkness

Updated:
Thursday started with a bang.
Alarm bells and broken glass,
broken sleep and dizziness.
All faces blurred to protect the innocent,
didn't explain why the road was blurred as well.
Think fast.
Gotta get up, over and out
in the next five seconds,
or I don't know what.
Somewhere in the pandemonium,
I manage to spare a thought for appearances,
slamming the gas just to get a screech
as I fire myself out of the way
like the human cannonball I often feel like.
The branches over the road
smack, noisily, against the roof,
as I shoot up the hill,
taking the junctions slalom style,
missing the point entirely,
and barely missing the woman with the pram.
A glance to either side
only shares with me a streak of light,
and the tunnel ahead tells me nothing
of the coming seconds.
And then the darkness.
