On my way home, I tripped on a loose rock and found myself in a quandary. Quite by mistake, I had broken the law. I was a trespasser.

In my defense, I had never intended to cross that line, where the rain falls down to the sewer, but my guilt is presumed, all the same. Nowhere to turn, I ran. Like the wind. Maybe nobody saw. Maybe I was in the clear. Only time would tell.

Ignorance is no excuse when the land border is clearly marked.
