Fuel Primer

AKA: Directional Pump, Bulb Pump, Ball Pump

WARNING:

Be careful when extracting this device after pumping fuel, as there will be fuel left inside that can easily spray into the eyes and mouth. Hand and eye protection is recommended during and after use. Make sure to fit in the correct direction (as indicated by the printed or embossed arrows), otherwise, you may suck fuel out of the place you intended to pump it into.

Information

A tool for siphoning fuel from one container into another, or for priming an engine, fuel filter or other device requiring priming. Priming is the removal of air in the line to ensure a continuous flow of liquid.

Observing the direction of flow, place the IN end into the source container (such as your fuel line) and the OUT end into the target container (like your fuel filter). Squeeze the bulb in the middle to begin pumping the fuel towards the target. In most cases, you will feel the bulb becoming firm as the fuel pressure builds, indicating that you have successfully primed the filter. In the case of siphoning, the bulb may remain soft throughout. The clear pipes allow you to see the fuel flowing, so you can be sure that something is happening and fuel is flowing in the right direction.

Although the video below relates to a boat, the usage is identical for all engines.
