Tread Depth Gauge

WARNING:

Make sure to measure the depth of tread in several places across the width of the tire in order to get an accurate reading. In most places, the central 75% must all be above the minimum tread depth in order to pass technical tests. Tires that fall below that minimum may invalidate insurance or even make you liable for any accidents you may be involved in, no matter who was responsible. So measure your tires now and then to keep on top of things.

Information

A gauge that measures the depth of the tread on your tire.

To operate, just push the flat blade into the tool, then place the tool onto the road-facing edge of the tire and press down on the white part (may be another color), making sure that the flat blade at the bottom of the tool goes into the tread gap. When the moving part of the tool won't move any further, the number visible at the lowest point on the tool is the depth of your tread in millimeters (other measurements are on the other side of the tool).

This tire has around 7.5mm of tread across the central 75% of the width.
