Words

Four years later,
I found the words I'd been missing.
They weren't so elegant
for such a long time coming,
but they were the ones I found,
and I scanned them a few times,
before I pushed them out the door
with a place to go
and a set of ears to find when they got there.
I closed the door behind them,
and set about my business,
not expecting to hear from them again.
But a short time later,
they came rapping on the doors and windows,
and they brought friends.
Half relieved, half terrified,
I cracked a window and peaked out,
waiting for their message.
They were calm and pleasant-natured,
and they came in close
and whispered themselves gently to my ear.
All the days of wonder and sorrow
were melted away,
leaving a gap that could only be filled
by peace.
And far across the icy town,
up three hills and then some,
where a new creature lay, resting,
a wound began to heal.
And as it did,
so, too, here, did mine.
